Read through the Bible, Day 78

In 1 Samuel 1–3, Hannah fervently prays for a child and God answers by giving her Samuel, whom she dedicates to the Lord’s service. As a boy, Samuel receives a divine call from God, beginning his prophetic role.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

1 Samuel 1–3

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

In chapter 1 verses 10–16, Hannah honestly pours her heart out before the Lord, unashamed. When was the last time you came before the Lord in prayer with that kind of raw honesty? Take some time today to kneel before Him with reverence and openness.

"After pouring her heart out before the Lord, Hannah chose to worship. Despite any physical evidence that her desperate prayers for a child had been heard, Hannah praised the Lord. . . . She chose the sacrifice of praise." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
