Read through the Bible, Day 217

God sees through religious performance straight to the heart. There is no need to hide anything from Him.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Jeremiah 7–9

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

What deceptive words or outward habits are you tempted to use as evidence of your faith rather than offering true repentance?

God gave Jeremiah discernment to see beyond the impressive, external religious life of His people. Jeremiah penetrated and probed and held the people’s hearts up to the light; he pleaded with them to see what God saw. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
