Read through the Bible, Day 151

In Job 9-12, we see Job wrestling with the mystery of his suffering. He acknowledges God’s power and justice but struggles to understand how a mortal can contend with Him. While Job laments his plight and expresses despair, his friends reassert that God is just and that Job’s suffering must be a result of sin, urging him to repent.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Job 9–12

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

In chapter 12, Job highlights the Lord’s power and justice. How can these perfect attributes of God bring you comfort, even when the world around you feels dark and painful?

"O Lord, there is no end to Your sovereign control. Your unseen hand is behind the rise and fall of institutions and nations. Earthly leaders may think of themselves as mighty, but they are subject to Your will. They are blind to what is going on around them and cannot see the way forward; they are unsteady and unreliable. And all of this is Your doing. Amen." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
