Read through the Bible, Day 112

Joash’s reign puts a descendant of David back on Judah’s throne, preserving the family line of the Messiah. He leads the effort to restore and refurbish the temple, but in the end, he turns away from the God who appointed him to the throne.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

2 Kings 12–14

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

In what ways can you ensure that your trust and hope remain rooted in God rather than in leaders or human institutions?

"Though earth’s happenings often seem random, meaningless, hopeless, and even cruel, what is happening in the heavenly realm is infused with such wisdom and goodness, with such a plan and a purpose, that if we knew what God was doing, we would worship and praise Him." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
