Saying "Yes, Lord"

December 1, 2020 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” —Luke 1:38

Joseph was a normal working man. Mary was a normal young woman preparing for marriage. Neither of them had any idea that their lives would be forever changed by a visit from the angel Gabriel.

The story that God wrote for this couple was anything but easy—shame and loss marked their lives as parents of Jesus. Yet when God visited these two to announce a change in (their) plans, their response was the same: Yes, Lord. Though Your script for our lives is totally different from the one we would have written, though we cannot see how You’re going to do this, and though we certainly don’t know how to explain it to anyone else . . . we trust You. And in their obedience, they stepped into pivotal roles in the greater Story God was writing.

You won’t be called to raise God’s Son, but God may have other surprises in store for you. When those surprises come, will you trust Him enough to say, “Yes, Lord”?

How is God asking you to trust Him today, even though you can’t see the outcome?
