Woman to Woman

Older women likewise are to . . . train the young women. —Titus 2:3–4 ESV

If I were to ask you, “Are you an ‘older’ or ‘younger’ woman?” you’d likely say you’re older than some and younger than others. That’s true for all women.

When Paul instructed older women to teach the young ones, it’s likely the older women he had in mind were those past childbearing age. However, the word he uses for young women (neos) indicates his categories of older and younger had more to do with experience, life stage, and spiritual maturity. A neos is a woman who is new to the circumstances in which she is placed.

If you want to be the kind of woman who brings glory to God, you should actively learn from the lives of women who have walked the path before you and actively teach those coming after. Regardless of your age, the Lord wants you to be both a learner and a teacher.

It takes a sisterhood to grow girls up into true womanhood—a godly sisterhood in which every woman learns from the older and mentors the younger.
