I have not departed from the commands from his lips; I have treasured the words from his mouth more than my daily food. —Job 23:12
There are times when God seems far away, and we no longer have feelings of intimacy we once enjoyed. I believe this is because He wants us to learn to walk by faith and to seek Him with all our hearts.
During extreme suffering, Job struggled to believe God was there when he couldn’t sense His presence: “If I go east, he is not there, and if I go west, I cannot perceive him” (Job 23:8).
Then, with eyes of faith, Job declared what he knew to be true and affirmed his commitment to cling to the Lord and His Word: “Yet he knows the way I have taken; when he has tested me, I will emerge as pure gold” (Job 23:10).
The enemy will throw obstacles in our path to try to get us to live the Christian life apart from consistent time in God’s presence. At times you may feel like throwing in the towel. Don’t quit! Keep pursuing Him. Your search will be rewarded.
