We Can Overcome

April 28, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Daniel, one of the Judean exiles, has ignored you, the king, and the edict you signed, for he prays three times a day.” —Daniel 6:13

Daniel knew his fate was in God’s hands, not the king’s, so he prayed. He knew his God was (and is) more powerful than any earthly power, so he prayed. He knew his God was (and is) the One who hears and answers prayer, so he prayed. He knew the safest place on earth was (and is) in God’s presence, so he prayed. Prayer is where “Heaven rules” lives and breathes. And overcomes.

No, it doesn’t always look that way. The people who were determined to catch Daniel praying to his God found all the evidence they were looking for. They hurried to report him to King Darius. And the king reluctantly gave the command that Daniel be fed to the lions.

So, yes, in the moment, as in most of our moments, there was no visible evidence of “overcoming.” To the contrary, things were getting worse. But because Heaven rules, God can work in a situation that seems unworkable and help us to overcome.
