Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. Instead he emptied himself . . . taking on the likeness of humanity. —Philippians 2:5–7
Was Jesus like us? At least for those years He sojourned to earth, was He really . . . human?
Yes. And, of course, no. “The entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ,” Colossians 2:9 tells us. And yet He also “emptied himself” so that He could take on our likeness. Imagine the restraint Christ must have exercised on the inside when He witnessed the fallenness around Him. He who had been eternally with the Father in unblemished glory and unbroken love, came here—to a place overrun with wickedness.
Did He see it? Did He hear it? Did He feel it? Oh, yes. He had emptied Himself so that He could feel these things. In this He was very much like us. And yet without adding to the sinfulness because He had no sin to add.

Make it Personal
Jesus was often the victim of sin but never the instigator of it. Thank Him for coming to earth to seek and save the lost.
