Wait and See

February 23, 2026 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“My daughter, wait until you find out how things go, for he won’t rest unless he resolves this today.” —Ruth 3:18

Generations before Ruth, God established the levirate law to help needy family members. If a man’s land was lost, a close male relative could restore it to the original owner. If a married man died childless, the closest living male relative—a kinsman-redeemer—was to marry the widow, provide for her, bear offspring for the deceased, preserve the family name, and keep the inheritance in the family.

Encouraged by Naomi, Ruth asked Boaz to act as kinsman-redeemer for Elimelech’s family. Boaz agreed but noted that an even closer relative had the first right. He assured Ruth he would handle it and she would have the protection of a kinsman-redeemer. And Naomi, finally learning to trust in God’s faithfulness, counseled Ruth to wait (Ruth 3:18).

What wise counsel for every perplexing moment and apparent dead end: wait until you see how things go. Christ—our heavenly Boaz—is at work and won’t rest until He resolves the matter in a way that best meets your needs and showcases His glory.
