Training for Eternity

December 28, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way. —1 Timothy 4:8

Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? Maybe you’re committed to eating better or starting an exercise routine. There’s value in those things—Scripture tells us bodily discipline has some benefit. Over the years, I’ve found that a daily walk not only helps my body but also prepares my heart.

Physical discipline can lay the groundwork for deeper spiritual habits. The way we care for our bodies becomes a training ground for how we walk with God. Being faithful in little things helps build consistency in greater areas—like guarding our thoughts, walking in purity, and saying no to the flesh.

God often reminds me not to live just for the moment—assuming that life will always go on as it has. He invites us to live in light of eternity.

When we discipline our bodies and bring them under the control of His Spirit, we can enjoy the freedom that comes with godliness—a freedom that bears fruit not just now but forever.
