Speak the truth, each one to his neighbor. —Ephesians 4:25
I still remember sitting in church, miserable under the Spirit’s conviction. I had lied on some reports to my college music department. I knew if I wanted to be right with God, I had to make it right.
I also shared this stronghold with two mature believers and asked them to pray for me. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But to my amazement, as soon as I humbled myself before God and others, the stranglehold of deception in my life was broken.
Because of my desire to be truthful, I committed to speak the truth to every person, in every situation, regardless of the cost. Anytime I failed to speak truth, I would go back and make it right. As a result, I’ve experienced the joy of having a clear conscience before God and others, and speaking truthfully has become a passion and pattern in my life.
