The Seed of Eternal Life

October 1, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. —Ephesians 2:4–5

My first conscious memory is of May 14, 1963, when, at the age of four, I gave my heart to Christ. Although I didn’t realize it then, I understand now that at that moment, God planted within me a seed—the seed of eternal life. He placed within me a new life—the life of His Son, Jesus.

And that was only the beginning. God’s intent was for that seed to be carefully nurtured, that it should take root and produce fruit—and that one day that seed would produce a woman who would bear the likeness of His dear Son and who would reproduce others after the same likeness.

Until that day in 1963, according to God’s Word, I was “dead in trespasses”—I had no connection to the God of the universe. But at that moment, through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, I became alive. And with that new birth came evidence of life.
