Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. —1 Corinthians 16:13–14 ESV
Jesus’ maleness was not an arbitrary aspect of His incarnation. His being the Son of God and the Son of Man was intentional and necessary. Jesus had to be a man in order to fulfill the Old Testament types of prophet, priest, and king (see Luke 13:33; Heb. 3:1; Rev. 17:14).
This fact need not become a matter of male vs. female contention. Jesus honored women, treated them with great respect, and included them in His mission. In this way, and in so many others, Jesus truly is the perfect role model for godly men.
Think of the many ways Jesus displayed perfect masculinity. He was diligent in work, fervent in prayer, intentional in friendship, compassionate to the suffering, bold in rebuke, calm yet courageous when threatened, devoted to the Father, and selfless to the core. Oh, that the men of the kingdom would follow His lead—in every way.
