The God Who Pursues

February 9, 2026 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Return, unfaithful Israel. . . . I will not look on you with anger, for I am unfailing in my love.” —Jeremiah 3:12

God had told His people through the prophet Jeremiah that He remembered what it was like in the early days of their relationship— “the loyalty of your youth, your love as a bride” (Jer. 2:2).

But something had changed. More than merely forgetting Him, they had turned their backs on Him to follow other lovers. So, in Jeremiah 3, God makes His case against His Bride. He is heartbroken by their appalling infidelity.

Yet He never ceases to be a lover—a reconciling, redeeming God who relentlessly pursues His wayward Bride, pleading with His people to come back, despite how gravely they have forsaken Him.

This is the gospel—the good news—the gospel for saved people, the gospel we need preached to us every day of our lives, reminding us how God continues to seek us and woo us back to Himself. He wants a restored relationship. He pleads with us to return and when we do, He promises to extend mercy and heal our faithlessness.
