The Encouragement of Prayer

September 22, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

I never stop giving thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. —Ephesians 1:16

Several years ago as I prepared to teach a podcast series, I put a request on Facebook for people to share examples of how others had encouraged them. A recurring theme was the area of prayer.

One woman said, “Hearing people pray over me gives me spiritual strength.”

I completely understand. Thousands of times in my life, when I’ve been in a hard place, hearing someone pray would minister grace and encouragement to my heart. Even just hearing them say they were praying for me infused me with grace and strength.

We can be that kind of encourager to someone else. We can pray on the phone, in person, in the future, or even right at that moment.

When we pray for someone, not only does it tell that person we care but it’s also a reminder of God’s care for them. Because the Lord is the One who’s prompted us to pray in the first place, our prayers are confirmation that He remembers them in their pain and struggles.

Make it Personal

Make it a point to ask someone today how you can specifically pray for them—and then do it!
