The Comfort of Awe

March 13, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. —Philippians 3:12

There are many things about God we simply cannot comprehend, yet the effort we put into seeking Him can lead to life-changing wisdom and understanding. What a theology degree cannot deliver, a longing heart can. The riches of God’s ways will draw forth worship and awe from us, from breathless hearts grown weary under the loads we carry. They make us want more of this One who loves us.

The seeking heart becomes a worshiping heart. As God makes Himself known to us—sometimes little-by-little and occasionally in bursts of graceful understanding—we find ourselves rejoicing “with inexpressible and glorious joy” (1 Pet. 1:8). This is an outflow of our salvation; it is life in Christ as it is meant to be.

These mysteries of God, the many, many things about Him that are beyond imagination, compel us to know Him. They aren’t meant to frustrate us with God’s complexity but to keep us seeking Him.

Make it Personal

Think about something you have learned about God over the past year. Worship Him as you ponder that truth.
