Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. —Revelation 20:15
Some Christians place heavy emphasis on the reality of this world, while others focus unduly on eternity as if present hardships and injustices don’t matter. But these who persevere deal in both, and use our future hope to shape our present reality.
Because it’s tethered to today, political power is fleeting. The Christian is always one cultural wind away from dwelling in the land of Goshen. No matter how much political clout any group amasses, there will always come a day when a new pharaoh is coming who has no regard for our interests.
Seeking political and cultural power in the nasty now-and-now may see our names in men’s and women’s history books, but only One will write our names in the Lamb’s Book. We will study and marvel over His Book for eternity, and the subject matter between the two is quite different; the victories are recorded very differently, and we are not the hero.
