Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight. —Proverbs 3:5–6
The contrast between wise and foolish choices, and the consequences of each and the quality of peace we experience based on what we choose, is laced throughout Scripture. In fact, it seems almost every choice made by any of our scriptural ancestors, in any point in history, is a choice between wisdom that leads to life and folly that leads to death. . . .
And yet the benefits of heeding Wisdom’s call go beyond mere life choices—it is a call of even greater consequences than escaping personal pain. It is the call from death to new life in Christ. Wisdom’s voice is His, standing atop the high place of Mount Sinai teaching Israel life from death, and claiming freedom from that death into new life on Golgotha’s hill.
Wisdom calls us not to mere moralism, but to newness, and escape from the senselessness and tyranny of the world of folly and destruction, death and the grave.
