Take Shelter in Him

September 30, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Come, see the works of the Lord, who brings devastation on the earth. —Psalm 46:8

When we see trouble coming, it’s easy to give in to fear rather than run to God. That’s not to say our physical lives will necessarily be preserved. But as our soul takes shelter in the Lord, nothing can harm or damage us in that place of eternal refuge.

Part of God’s purpose in bringing desolations like tornadoes, earthquakes, or disease on the earth is so that people will see His glory and power and come to a place of repentance and rightness with Him. Those who don’t know God don’t understand that these hardships are severe mercies intended to bring about redemption and salvation for the ultimate good of our souls and, even more than that, for His greater glory.

It’s a broken world, and there’s no promise that all our problems will be fixed when we make God our refuge. But there is a promise that our hearts will be safe and that we will have the help and the grace we need to endure even in the midst of the storm.
