Daily Reflections

Suitable for Framing

Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. —Psalm 96:7

My refrigerator serves as a backdrop for photos of my friends and their families. Out of curiosity, I once counted them up and found nearly ninety families represented.

Nearly all the faces in these photos are smiling. Yet I know there’s more to these families. Some carry deep burdens or are enduring painful circumstances.

Yet I’m struck afresh with the wonder and significance of family. If things aren’t well at home, every other area of life is affected. God uses the gift and, at times, the vise of family relationships to shine a light on who we really are, to teach, mold, and change us, and to fit us and others in our family for our ultimate Home.

As you consider your family, remember that with every act of service, every encouraging word you speak, every sacrifice you make, you’re building a memorial that will outlive you. Most importantly, you’re building a habitat for His presence, a place where He is worshiped and loved and through which His glory can be displayed.
