“Those who have insight among the people will give understanding to many.” —Daniel 11:33
The Hebrew verb translated “have insight” in Daniel 11 is sakal.1 It can mean “to be wise,” “to understand,” to “have skill,” or to “have insight.” It refers to the wisdom, skill, and understanding that everyone wants but only God’s people can have.
Sakal makes us different. It makes our faith unmistakable. And according to the words spoken to Daniel by the angel, “Those who have insight [sakal] will shine like the bright expanse of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever” (Dan. 12:3).
Even with enemy forces working against us, even with the steady rain of conflict coming down on us, we’re not paralyzed in the process or rendered helpless. Instead, we’re enabled to live out the truth of our convictions, the insight our God has given us. Not only does He cover us with His comfort and empower us with His courage; by enlightening us with His wisdom, He makes us reflectors of His light in a dark world simply as we “take action” each day.
