The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. . . . They will still bear fruit in old age, healthy and green. —Psalm 92:12, 14
My friend Vonette Bright was someone who captured so much of what’s beautiful about a godly woman—full of the Word, faith, and spiritual vitality—all the way to the finish line.
Well into her eighties, she was still traveling worldwide, serving the Lord and others. Busy as she was, she offered to host a weekly small- group meeting in her home. She refused to settle back and live for herself.
What came through in Vonette’s public ministry was equally evident in private. She was a Titus 2 woman all the way through. And it showed.
Vonette and I talked often in the final months of her life. It gave me great hope to witness the still-full-of-life spirit and the never-ending growth and devotion of this woman more than three decades my senior. She offered living proof of what God’s grace can bring about in us as we continue to run the race He’s set before us.
