If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is. —Colossians 3:1
As the old year comes to a close and the new year begins, our thoughts often turn toward resolutions. What do we want to change about our lives? What new habits do we want to develop?
When I think of resolutions, I’m reminded of Jonathan Edwards, the eighteenth-century preacher known not just for his theology but for his deep desire to live wholly for God’s glory. As a young man, he wrote a series of seventy resolutions—clear, thoughtful commitments meant to guide his walk with Christ. They flowed from a heart that longed to grow, press further in, and know Christ more deeply.
His example challenges me. Am I closer to Christ today than I was last week? Last year? What choices can I make today that will help me be closer to Him one year from now?
As we step into a new year, may we seek the things above. Let’s commit to live in a way that intentionally moves us closer to Jesus—one day and one choice at a time.
