Scratch beneath all the misperceptions of Heaven’s rule—the reasons we fight it or struggle to believe it—and you’ll find that pride is always high on the list of contributing factors. We depend on our pride to defend us, protect us, and keep others from taking advantage of us. But being set free from pride, as knowing, believing, and trusting that God is in control allows us to be, frees us from so much that works against us: relational barriers, vocational distress, offended nerves, pointless comparisons.
Much of what made Daniel’s life so effective and inspirational was his humility, both before God and others. When we right-size our view of God and our view of ourselves, life begins to look totally different. We will resist pride and choose to pursue humility instead.
