Praying God’s Will

February 11, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

The Spirit . . . intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. —Romans 8:27

We all know we should pray according to God’s will, but how can we know it? There’s one thing we can be sure of: the Word of God is the will of God. When we pray God’s Word back to Him, we’re praying according to His will.

I have friends, for example, whose marriage is in trouble. I’m often at a loss as to how to pray for them. But I know I can pray confidently when I pray according to God’s will as He has revealed it in His Word.

I know God’s will is that they would walk in love (Eph. 5:2), in oneness (Col. 3:14), and in truth (3 John 3). So, I can pray these and other passages for them.

The same holds true when it comes to our own needs. When we lay hold of His will as He’s expressed it in His Word, we can pray with boldness and confidence, knowing God not only hears us but that “we have what we have asked of him” (1 John 5:15).
