Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path. —Psalm 119:105
God’s Word has power to keep us from sin (Psalm 119:9, 11), to strengthen us when we’re grieving (v. 28), to comfort us when we’re suffering (vv. 50, 52), to grant us freedom (v. 45), to give us understanding for our path (v. 105), and to give us peace and keep us from stumbling (v. 165).
God’s Word will light your way, help you make right choices, heal your wounds, warn you of danger, protect and cleanse you from sin, make you wise. It’s bread, water, a counselor, life. It’s satisfying, sufficient, supreme, supernatural. The hymn writer put it this way:
Holy Bible, book divine, precious
treasure, thou art mine. . . .
Mine to show by living faith, man can
triumph over death.
Mine to tell of joys to come, and the
rebel sinner’s doom;
O thou Holy Book divine,
precious treasure, thou art mine. 1
What joy should be ours as we consider the many blessings and benefits we’ve received from the Word of God!
