In everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. —Philippians 4:6
Is it selfish to pray for yourself? Not if your motive is that God be glorified through your life. On a day-to-day basis, there are many personal matters that I lay before the Lord. As I pray, I try to be sensitive to how He may be directing my mind in relation to that matter.
Through the years, these are things I’ve prayed over and over again. Guard my heart. Fill me with Your love. Fill me with Your Spirit.
May I be clothed with humility. Make me a servant. Guard my tongue.
Give me wisdom and discernment. Give me a grateful spirit. Teach me the fear of the Lord. Help me to walk by faith and not by sight.
Each petition is just a few words, but oh, how desperately I need them. And how hopeless and helpless I am in these areas, apart from His grace. I need Him. And that’s why I keep lifting these simple, heartfelt prayers up to Him, trusting that He hears and will answer these desires of my heart.
