In everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. —Titus 2:10 ESV
You may be concerned about the rapid moral disintegration around us. Our reflexive reaction is to think the solution will be found in better laws, structures, and systems. It’s tempting to think that different elected officials or better social programs will make the difference.
But Paul argues in Titus that we first and foremost need disciples who know and live in accord with sound doctrine. Men and women grounded in Scripture who live out what they believe. Believers who are godly, wise, good, and kind, with loving, healthy families and relationships.
Our best intellectual arguments alone will never persuade the world about God’s existence, the uniqueness of Christ, the way to salvation, or much else. They’re more likely to be persuaded as they see the gospel lived out in our lives and relationships.
Don’t underestimate what God can do to make the gospel desirable to lost souls through those outposts of grace and beauty. That’s how His kingdom spreads.
