Let my love come to his garden and eat its choicest fruits. —Song of Songs 4:16
The Song of Songs is the story of the growing intimacy shared by a royal couple. To the surprise of onlookers, the king chooses an ordinary working girl for his bride. He lavishes affection upon her, marries her, and takes her to live in his palace. As she responds, she’s transformed by his love.
Once resentful of her labor, the peasant girl now longs to bring delight to her Beloved. He likens her heart to a garden, a place where he finds great joy and satisfaction. And she responds by making her heart a place that brings him pleasure, cultivating it with beauty, fragrance, and delight. The garden that was once “hers” is now his.
So it is with you. The One who has redeemed you seeks refuge and delight in the garden of your heart. He wants you to eagerly anticipate His presence. As you commune with Him in that special place, your life will produce the sweet fragrance and fruit of His Spirit. You—and others—will be blessed.
