I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. —Psalm 27:4
David was a king and the commander-in-chief of Israel’s military. He was a powerful man. But when he was surrounded by his enemies in Psalm 27, he lifted his eyes up to the Lord and asked for “one thing.”
What do you think he might have asked for his one request? Victory over his enemies? An effective battle plan? For God to make his problems go away?
Instead, David asked “to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of [his] life” (v. 4). He wanted to live his life, wherever he was and whatever he was doing, constantly conscious of the presence of God.
Is that your desire? Not just on Sunday but on Monday through Saturday, whether at home, work, church, grocery shopping, sitting in meetings, or working out at the gym. Whatever you do throughout the week, is your primary desire to dwell in the presence of the Lord all the days of your life?
