One Thing

February 8, 2026 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life. —Psalm 27:4

If you had to boil down your greatest desire to just “one thing,” how would you summarize it? David’s priority was to live in God’s presence so he could look on His splendor and glory and learn the heart and ways of the Almighty.

No, David didn’t do it perfectly. He blew it in some of his most crucial relationships. But because the Lord had placed this passion in his heart, He wouldn’t let David go. With a confronting, convicting, cleansing love, God continued to pursue and restore him.

One might have wondered at points, Why does God bother with a guy like David? The same reason He bothers with any of us—because He’s a Lover in pursuit of relationship. And because His love for unlovable sinners puts His amazing grace on display. Even when we fail to live the “one thing” we most long for, we can be assured God will keep working till He becomes our sole consuming desire.

Make it Personal

Write out your “one thing” response and put it in a place where you can be reminded of it on a regular basis.
