No Higher Calling

April 22, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

He who is called by the Lord as a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called as a free man is Christ’s slave. —1 Corinthians 7:22

I’ve come to believe that there is no greater calling than to be marked as a slave of Christ—to choose to give my life in the service of the Master. For many years, my prayer has been to be identified as a slave of Jesus Christ.

That isn’t to say that living as a bondslave of Jesus has always been easy. Are His requirements sometimes hard? Absolutely. Are they sometimes different from what I would have chosen for myself? No question. Do I sometimes wish to be free from constraints placed upon me in His service? Definitely. Yet in the deepest part of my heart, I want nothing more than to be His lifelong, loyal bondslave.

Now don’t think that makes me some kind of supersaint. Nothing He has ever required of me could begin to repay the debt I owe Him. Besides, the heart He’s given me ought to be— and can be—the heart of every child of God.

What are some of the “requirements” of being Christ’s bondslave that you have found difficult at one time or another?
