So I turned my attention to the Lord God to seek him by prayer and petitions, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. —Daniel 9:3
Of all the things to learn and apply from Daniel, this may be the most powerful—and the most needful. Daniel habitually “turned [his] attention to the Lord God to seek him by prayer” (Dan. 9:3). If we believe that Heaven rules, this will be our habit as well. If there is a God who rules, as Daniel believed and as we believe, why would we not look to Him for help and answers? Why would we look to the government, the courts, elections, or anything or anyone else for help when we can look to the One who controls everything in heaven and on earth?
If you’ve been searching for encouragement and the impetus to take a deeper, more fervent dive into prayer, then a “Heaven rules” perspective might be just what you need. Looking at life through the Heaven rules lens makes doing almost anything other than prayer seem unproductive by comparison.
