Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD cares for me. —Psalm 27:10
Parental reluctance or temporal transience is contrasted with, not analogous to, God’s faithfulness. Though my father or mother forsake me or are separated from me by death, the Lord will take me in; literally, he will gather me up. He collects waifs in his arms.
The presence of our Father is stronger and more certain than that of our natural parent. He will never forsake us or let us down. He will never leave us. Everything about this world changes like the seasons. Even in a particular season, there is change still. . . .
Not so with our immutable God. He gathers us up in his arms of protection, and the tie that he uses to link his heart with ours will always remain. Nothing can break it. God tells us that he is not going anywhere. His is the love that will not let us go.1
