Living as People of Hope

July 26, 2026 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” —Luke 6:27–28

When people observe the church and Christians, I’m afraid that too often they see us either working really hard to gain society’s acceptance and approval or else making a lot of angry, ugly noise in opposition to the world. But the Heaven rules principle guards us against either faulty extreme.

Do we abandon biblical truth for the sinking ship of cultural accommodation? Of course not. But must we express our frustrations by bludgeoning other people who, yes, are fallen and sinful (as are we, apart from Christ), but who also desperately need God’s mercy? Not at all.

God’s Word, despite the condition of our world, gives us hope that He is at work and that His way will prevail without our needing to thrash other sinners with the truth. When we believe that Heaven rules, we will live as people of hope rather than people of outrage.
