“May your God, whom you continually serve, rescue you!” —Daniel 6:16
Did King Darius really believe those words? Probably not. But he knew what he’d seen in Daniel, who had done nothing but “continually” serve this God.
The next morning, Darius raced to the lions’ den and “cried out in anguish to Daniel. ‘Daniel, servant of the living God . . . has your God, whom you continually serve, been able to rescue you from the lions?’” (Dan. 6:20).
Darius couldn’t have believed he’d hear a living voice replying to his question. Yet something he’d seen in that “extraordinary spirit” (5:12) of Daniel sparked enough faith to make him believe that Daniel’s God might be the One who could pull it off.
That’s testimony. And that’s what Daniel’s life exuded, so that here in his most critical trial, rather than curse the adversity, he could walk with a confidence in God.
And so can we. The way you and I walk through such valleys of the shadow of death can result in equal heights of witness today. Believe it!
