Let the Walls Down

September 13, 2026 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. —James 5:16

When I was in my mid-twenties, God’s Spirit convicted me that I had developed a habit of “exaggerating the truth.” Driven to make a good impression on others, I was frequently guilty of “stretching” the truth. Though no one else knew, and others might have considered my offenses inconsequential, I experienced an almost suffocating (and blessed!) sense of God’s conviction.

I confessed my deception and purposed to speak the truth in every situation. But I soon discovered that lying was a stronghold in my life. Ultimately, the freedom I needed and longed for began when I was willing to let the walls down. God brought to mind the principle of James 5:16.

I’ll never forget approaching two godly individuals, acknowledging my sin of lying and asking them to pray for me. It was one of the most difficult things I’d ever done. But the moment I humbled myself, the pride that had kept me in bondage had its back broken, and I was set free to begin speaking the truth.

How can living with the “walls down” before others help you to experience freedom?
