Jesus, the God Man

March 7, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman . . . to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. —Galatians 4:4–5

Fully God and fully man: this is one of the most difficult things to comprehend about Christ. How could He be both at the same time, all of the time? It’s not as if He possessed some kind of divine internal switch that made Him able to toggle back and forth between these dual natures as the need required. He was never one without also being the other.

Mind boggling? Absolutely. But more importantly, it’s true. Thank God it’s true! In order to save us, Christ had to be both. The humanity of Christ means He is willing to save us. The deity of Christ means He is able to save us.

Galatians 4:4–5 describes the new covenant fulfillment of the Old Testament promise: “For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us” (Isa. 9:6). The “child” was human, the “son” was God.
