Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time. —1 Peter 5:6
It’s a frightful thing to resist Heaven’s rule. Those who do may seem to prevail—for a time. But in the end, well, Heaven still rules.
You and I need this reminder. We need it for ourselves when we are walking in unrepentant, self-deluded pride. God is able to humble us. And He will, if we refuse to humble ourselves. We also need this reminder when we see others walking in unrepentant pride—whether they are the leaders, influencers, and celebrities we watch on the news or the people we live and work with each day. God is able to humble them, too—and He will, if they refuse to humble themselves.
But we must keep in mind that humbling others is His job, not ours. Because our own pride can cause us to accentuate the evil in others while being blind to the evil in our own hearts.
