“Be still, and know that I am God.” —Psalm 46:10 ESV
Occasionally, we need to stop and reevaluate our schedule and activities in light of our God-given priorities. This isn’t easy. We tend to think that everything we’re doing is essential. However, if we don’t have time to cultivate our relationship with the Lord, then undoubtedly we’re doing some things that are not on His agenda for us.
If we want to have an intimate relationship with Jesus, we must be willing to let Him show us which activities are not His priorities for us—at least for a season.
If you’re a parent, you may also need to evaluate your children’s activities. I’ve observed many well-meaning parents who live breathless, out-of-control lives because their children are enrolled in every available activity. Not only does this keep them on the go from morning till night, but it can also create an “activity addiction” that decreases the ability to have a quiet heart and curbs their appetite for God’s Word and prayer.
Whether our own activities or our children’s, all must be evaluated in light of our ultimate, eternal priorities.
