Imagining Doesn’t Help

How long, LORD? —Psalm 13:1

It’s not wrong to ask how long our difficulties will last or how they’re going to turn out. It would make all the difference in the world, we think, if we could only know. Imagining doesn’t help. But Heaven rules does.

“Heaven rules” is a huge part of the answer to everything. It’s not an easy or a make-it- all-better answer. It may not seem like nearly specific enough.

But imagine if Heaven didn’t rule. Imagine if no one was working above and inside our questions, working in advance and in response to our prayers—One who not only knows where everything is going but is actively taking it there and will be delivering it right on time. In His own time. At the perfect time. One who knows us and loves us and is making us part of this grand story He is writing.

But we really don’t have to imagine what life would be like without “Heaven rules.” Because Heaven does rule, even when we don’t understand what is happening around us and to us.
