Hurrying God?

January 8, 2026 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

My heart says this about you: “Seek his face.” —Psalm 27:8

Years ago, while listening to an interview with Dr. Henry Blackaby, I heard something that deeply impacted me. Dr. Blackaby told of getting up each morning to meet with the Lord but often feeling rushed to attend to the day’s responsibilities.

He shared how God had convicted him that it was a grievous offense to “hurry up” the God of the universe and how he had determined to move up his quiet time a half hour earlier. He did but found it made little difference. So, he moved it up another half hour. “And I kept moving it up until I knew I could meet with God as long as He wanted, without my feeling hurried.”

As I heard those words, I felt a fresh sense of resolve to do whatever was necessary to secure unhurried moments where God could speak to me daily. Even though I’ve often failed, I remain convinced this is a battle worth fighting. Yes, it takes adjustments. But the sweet, precious fruit of lingering in His presence is worth whatever “sacrifices” may be required.
