The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. —James 5:16
Never mistake humble prayer for a lack of boldness. What it may not demonstrate in volume and high-sounding language, it more than makes up for in unswerving confidence.
When he was thrown into the lions’ den, Daniel didn’t take any glory or credit to himself for the miracle that happened. “My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths” (Dan. 6:22). “My God”—the God who rules the heaven, the God who rules the seas, the God who rules in the direst, darkest, most dangerous places we can imagine. Perhaps you know these places all too well because you’re in your own lions’ den right now, and it’s no child’s story from a picture book.
Even if that’s true, now is the time to pray. Now is the time to kneel and take your stand in the truth. Now is the time to refuse the worldly wisdom that says prayer is a waste of breath and time.
Every look around will make you think that might be right. But look up. Keep looking. Keep praying.
