Help

February 17, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need. —Hebrews 4:16

The “help” provided us in Hebrews 4, according to the term used in the original Greek, works like a rope or chain lashed around a sailing vessel to keep it from falling apart.

With that in mind, picture Jesus coming out to where we’re struggling, where we’re sure we’ll go under at any minute. We’re never alone in our suffering because He’s here to undergird us, to support us, to get us safely through.

While Jesus may save us by stopping the storm, as He did for His disciples in the boat (Luke 8:22–25), He may also save us by reinforcing the boat. The presence of a storm doesn’t mean the absence of the Savior. In fact, a “time of need” may mark the greatest season of growth in Christ that we’ll ever experience. When we run time and time again to the throne of grace, we’ll be amazed at the magnitude of God’s grace and mercy, even through the storm.

Make it Personal

Reflect on seasons when God has strengthened you through storms. Give thanks that He never runs out of grace and mercy.
