The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands. —Psalm 19:1
What would life be like if God had never spoken . . . never communicated with man . . . never given us His written Word? Try to imagine a world in which no one had ever heard the voice of God, where there was no Bible.
We would know there is a God because “the heavens declare the glory of God.” But how would we know what He is like? We were created to bring Him pleasure (Rev. 4:11 KJV), but how would we know what pleases Him?
Had God not chosen to speak, to reveal Himself, we would have no standard for right and wrong. We might experience some vague sense of guilt when we sinned, but we wouldn’t know why; nor would we know what to do about our sin. Our lives would be pointless and frustrating.
Thankfully we don’t exist in a spiritual vacuum. God has spoken. He has revealed Himself to man. Have you stopped to consider what that really means?
