Though the LORD is exalted, he takes note of the humble; but he knows the haughty from a distance. —Psalm 138:6
Time and time again, I’ve repeatedly experienced God’s grace poured out in response to my need. I remember one day when I was physically and emotionally depleted. I was preparing to leave on a ministry trip when I felt I couldn’t go on. At that point, I had two options. I could try to pull myself together and somehow muster up the strength to do what I needed to do.
However, I knew that acting in self-sufficiency would cause me to forfeit God’s grace and presence in my life. So in my weakness and desperation, I chose option two: I humbled myself, acknowledged my need, and cried out to the Lord. I asked Him for the supernatural enabling to do what He had called me to do.
Do you want to be close to God? Even as the father of the prodigal son drew his repentant boy to his chest and embraced and restored him, so our heavenly Father draws near to those who come to Him with humble, broken hearts.
