Dawson Trotman was the founder of The Navigators, a ministry with thousands of staff on college campuses and other missionary settings worldwide. This man, who was once asked by Billy Graham to develop a discipleship tool, was admired by many great people.
This servant of the Lord’s true greatness is seen in a story of a visit to Taiwan, where he hiked with a national pastor into a mountain village. As the two men walked for miles, their shoes became caked with mud. Though the Taiwanese pastor must have had dozens of memories, when asked what he remembered most about Trotman, he said, “He cleaned my shoes.”
Imagine what that pastor must have thought when he realized Trotman had washed the mud off his shoes before they resumed their hike. And imagine what others would think about Jesus if we, His followers, were to be more sensitive and responsive to their practical needs, manifesting the grace and servant heart of Christ—“so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything” (1 Pet. 4:11).
