A king’s heart is like channeled water in the LORD’s hand: He directs it wherever he chooses. —Proverbs 21:1
Remember King Nebuchadnezzar, who rescinded his rash decree? King Darius, who altered his religious perceptions? And don’t forget King Cyrus, the Persian king who ruled Babylon near the end of Daniel’s time there (Dan. 10:1), who reversed seventy years of established policy in Babylon by allowing the Judean exiles to go home (2 Chron. 36:22–23).
Leaders’ hearts can be changed. God can change them. He may not do it in ways we expect or follow the timeline we were hoping for. But as Heaven rules believers, that’s what we pray for. And meanwhile we exercise patience. We choose forgiveness. We keep setting the example, as Daniel did, of how real faith lives.
Whether the leaders in question are in your home, in your office, in your church, in your national capital, or at any level of influence over you, don’t despair over their hardheartedness. God has them in His hand.
