God’s Numbering System

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. —Psalm 91:1 ESV

Does everyone around you seem to enjoy amazing friendships while you feel the sting of loneliness? Do you look at your social media numbers and feel like you’ve come up short? When those feelings creep in, remember there’s no place sweeter, safer, and more satisfying than in God’s shadow.

In a culture of overexposure, how do I shelter myself in God? How do I tune my heart to listen to His Word above all? I come to Him, draw near to Him, and make room for Him. And when I don’t have the “want to,” I ask Him to give it to me. He’s in the business of doing “above and beyond all that we ask or think” (Eph. 3:20).

God’s numbering system is different than ours. We bring our nothing, and He gives us His everything. Getting 127 “likes” on social media is like getting breadcrumbs for dinner. Crumbs are fine to eat, but they aren’t satisfying— especially compared to the feast of love waiting for us in Him.

Make it Personal

What steps can you take to shelter yourself in God? How can you feast on His love rather than on the crumbs the world offers?
